I have a 110G deep tank, need help with light!!!!!

Hey guys, I have a 110G deep tank, the light that I have is a Coralife 48" PC 4X65W a total of 260W, I was told that is not that good for my tank if I want to keep some corals, so I was thinking to add Coralife 48" T5 light fixture, that one with just 2, will that help, I can spend on MH or LED, I dont know what to do.

PC's are def not enough light. LED's are expensive, Halides run hot and expensive to run. T5's IMO are a good middle ground.

You wont be able to do much at all other then Fish only or FOWLR.

Thanks for the help, so you say that the Odyssea 48" 216W (4x 54W) T5 HO Light Fixture with what I have now will be good for most corals?

Well one of the guys from marinedepot told me that if I got with 2 of the Ecoxotic Panorama Pro LED Module
and add that to my light fixture that I have now, then ill be good for corals, then another day I did call them agen & this other guy told me no they will not be good, he told me to add a T5 light fixture, & I did call Coralife & they told me as well that if I will add a T5 fixture ill be good for corals, Im going crazy!!! I NEED TO GET SOME THING BEFOR MY WIFE GETS BACK FROM VACATION

dont get a crallife fixture.look into getting a ati or a tek.4 bulb would be ok but but 6 wuld be better.also the bulbs you buy are critical.dont buy cheap t5 bulbs

So you are saying that if I add to my Coralife 48" PC 4X65W with a total of 260W a T5 with 4 bulbs ill be good for most corals??

i'm surprise no one asked you these questions.....
what are the dimensions of your tank and what are you planning to keep....sps, lps, softie?
also what is the average temp of the room? what is the range (lowest and highest) of the tank temp?
is the room air conditioned?

tom as you know it doesnt matter what type of coral he is adding now.we all know 3 or 4 months from now he will want to try clams or a piece of sps.the ati and the tek will handle almost any type of corals so there will be no need to upgrade in a couple of months..and no im not saying to add a 4 bulb to your coralife.im saying get rid of that coralife and go with 4 bulb ati or tek but if i were you i would go 6 bulb.matter of fact skip the 4 bulb and just get a 6 bulb

48 inches long, I'll assume? Get a 6 bulb T5 fixture. If you wanna go light into the coral, id stick with T5s.

A Nova Extreme Pro 6 bulb is cheaper and a great fixture. Id go ATI if you got money.

SPS+ MH all the way for maximum growth. Or LED if you got the cash.

Well the temp is now 80-82, and yes there is an AC in the room, I will like to keep soft corals, mushrooms, zoos, anemones, I?m not looking to go crazy with corals, if ill have to stay away from hard corals its ok with me. give me my options, Thanks.

the dimensions of the tank? they will help determine what kind and how much light you need.
80-82 will most likely eliminate the mh option unless you can crank up the a/c or get a chiller.
anemone's requirements are similar to hard corals in term of light.
definitely 6 bulbs over 4 bulbs t5. 8 bulbs might even be better.
if you can swing it, dimmable led will cover all the coral range providing you get more than what you need now and run it at 70% then later if you want to go full sps, you won't have to upgrade.
the cost of "yearly" replacement bulbs can range about 120-200 for t5's(6 bulbs) and 150-220 for mh's(2 bulbs).

duke is absolutely correct. 8 out of 10 upgrade, the other 2 leave the hobby......lol.

pretend that the tank is 22" deep when placing corals. only mushroom and perhaps some other softies can be place on the bottom.
dimmable led with optics will probably be best if money is not an issue.
otherwise quality 6-8 bulbs t5 like ati or trek might be cheaper initially.

Well I cant spend all that $$ now. I think for now ill just add a T5 fixture to help with the PC fixture

I just broke down my 75 gallon tank. 4 feet x 18" x 18 " and I ran a Tek elite 6x54watt t5 fixtures. Ask anyone who has been to my house. I grew incredible SPS and a beautiful clam that has doubled in size in 6 months on the sand bed. A good 6 bulb T5 fixure is all you need. Make sure that you get one with built in cooling otherwise you will be burning up T5 bulbs pretty fast. Remember bulbs last a year at best. They still look good but they degrade and the spectrum will change and the intensity will dim. Your tank will suffer If you dont change them every 9-12 months.
