magnets in your reef

never tried this before but im looking to put a couple magnets in my reef so i can mount a couple frags on my glass.the frag disc wont attach with crazy glue so i was thinking of putting them on magnets.i know the glass cleaners have magnets in them but they are sealed in a case.can i putstraight magnets in the tank?

Why dont you just buy a piece of egg crate home depot and you just cut the size that you want then get some suction cups and put them on the egg crate. Imo you would save more money.

i am notputting eggcrate in my tank.and i know about the magnetic rock i was wondering about using a straight magnet.one the size of a frag disc

Second opition get the egg crate and the to nano mag flaot and use the coral glue to stick on the egg crate and you will be able too move thr frags rack any where you want to. I believe if you google it and yuotube link will come up and it will show you how to make it. But you will spent more money on the nano mag which i think there $7.00 each. If you get lucky you build the nano mag at your LPS.

A regular magnet not encased will start to rust.. pretty quick. I'm pretty sure rusting in a reef isn't a good combination for corals

x2 with Ming..they will rust. I would also be careful with the pastic covered ones also because they would have to be water tight......I remember seeing reef safe frag mount magnets somewhere ....will get back to you.

Yes.

It depends on how much is on the glass, type of coral, size of coral, etc. It shouldn't be a worry though.

So if it eventually attaches to glass, why not use something like aquamend or super glue hold the ceramic disc on the glass?

Because it will be stuck on... You can still remove the magnet if you want, but the colony will get hacked to do so.

A magnet plug on the glass is no different then a ceramic plug on a rock. You can remove them, but like mentioned earlier, depending on the piece it could be difficult.

Can't you use a suction cup instead of a magnet? The silicon ones are a handful for a few dollars.

i tried gluing the disc to the glass but in a day or 2 with all my flow the caps are on the sandbed.it is very hard to glue the frags on a smooth surface like glass.i gave up and glued my caps on rock and im going a different direction.not going to spend 20 bucks on reef safe magnet holders.ill buy another frag instead
