Added support needed??

Hey MR,

I'm either adding a 125g or 150g in my house and I want to know if I need to add support to my floor. Tank is going on the first floor (meaning mid level) of my house. I'm not super knowledgable when it comes to this stuff and figured I'd reach out to you.

Here is a picture of the ceiling right below where the tank will rest.

looks like they are either 2x6's or 2x8's. are they 16 or 18 on center.

Studs are 12" apart.

you only have 1 joist their, the tank will bounce when you walk by. I would add cross braces and 2 support columns

After reading what you wrote I moved the 2nd row from the drop ceiling to see how much space was between joints. In the previous pictures the 1 joint that you can see is 10" from the wall and then they all are 12" apart. See below picture.

I will depenitly add the support if need be because I want to tank to stay in my Living room and not in my basement! let me know what your thoughts are.

IMO, when a tank runs parallel to the joists, you will always get deflection. That joist probably spans the length of the house. how far off the corner are you putting the tank, or is it in the center of the room.

As Rakagozler mentions you need support how is hard from the pics get some help if you can. Dont under estimate the weight of the tank it can do permanent damage just like so many people did with water beds.

the tank is still running parallel, to the tank, you have to put cross joists and support columns. I think their was a member here in pa that had the same issue, I don't remember the screen name. i'll see if I can look at my old posts.

In the pic that looks like a 2*8 (shouldnt be a 6 there not used for floor joist) even if its a 10 1 of them is not for 1000 lbs. If you could you should turn the tank and still support it.
