How do you unscrew the cap from membrane canister to change it? I mean specifically. I've taken it off the bracket; I've tried using an adjustable strap wrench, having my kids hold one end while I twist and scream at the to of my lungs. Any suggestions before I give up and order a new one?

I think you also need to open up the out put valve, where the final water comes out, and let the system run out of water. At that point, with the wrench that was posted above, you should be able to remove the top.

Once you get it open the real hard part, at least for me, was removing the membrane.

I've got those. This is for the membrane housing.

Ahhh my bad for mis-reading. Try soaking the end that opens in hot water for few a minutes? Did the trick for me when I was swapping mine out. Think I had a large channel lock pliers nearby too when I was replacing mine.

I've already disconnected it, so no pressure. I will try the hot water tonight. I think the membrane can be pulled out with needle nose pliers once that housing is open (assuming that's I get that far).

Make sure you own a brand of RO/DI filters that accommodate replaceable membranes. There are some out there that cannot be changed and require replacing the entire canister with a new membrane. If yours is supposed to be replaceable, then the hot water trick should work.
