Do I have to run my UV Sterilizer all the time?

I've been running my UV light for awhile now. Just wondering if its a waste can I have it run for part of the day or for a week every month?

I have one on my display in addition to my Qt. I run mine 24/7 and have so for a long time. The only time I dont have it on is if my Qt is not stocked with any livestock.

Just remember FLOW rate is important...not enough 'contact' time will make the UV useless.

true that...every UV should have flow rate listed. add a valve if needed.

i use one return pump plumbed with a T and each has a valve so i can control the flow rate! the line plumbed with the uv is at a very slow return so it can be effective-otherwise it's useless. putting it on the drain line will be ineffective because the flow will be too fast. my water used to be greenish before using one. after a few days of running, water was crystal clear!
