Was looking at my yellow tangs for about 3 weeks now and they have been acting strange. the smaller of the pair has been twitching acting like my clownfish would at times. the bigger of the pair has a larger than normal belly and strangely enough has been eating the same as the other fish swimming around business as usual. so my questions to you experts is what do you think is going on? also are tang females usually larger than males like clownfish? moms also told me there no such thing as a stupid question so please lmk what you guys think i will have pics soon as well

Yellow Tang : Breeding
The yellow tang is a pelagic spawner. The male and the female will release sperm and eggs into the water column after a courting ritual, much like angelfish.

They have not been bred in captvity to date and its looking like a very difficult endeavour even for large scale breeding facilities.

(If you do a search on google they pretty much all say no one had successfully breed them yet)

Keep us posted!!!

Unfortunately, your fish can't get pregnant and it's something else that makes it's belly larger. Iwould keep an eye on it. As greybolt03 stated, tangs are pelagic spawner and I've seen why it's almost impossible to breed them in captivity- on the reef a very large school of tangs get together and females suddenly rise to the surface releasing eggs with dozens of males following her at the same time trying to fertilize the eggs. It's quite a show:)

What size tank do you have for 2 pairs of tangs? Are they being aggressive toward each other with the 'lil scalpel'?

 Also congrats...on your first posts, that's not in Marketplace

Thanks, also wanted too never really had anything relevant too say. no there not aggressive at all too each other just notice the twitching behavior. It's a very similar tank to richies own but this one is 500 gal. Actually come with a crazy story, I work construction and the house we acquired required renovation. Tearing down a wall, found the previous owner had his house taken by the bank and some devolpers decided to cover the tank because it as ugly with a wall. I fell in love with it and set it back up now it's tang city in there not 100% the exact gal measurement though
