Im a big softy when it comes to animals. I had a Clown Wrasse I got 3 weeks ago who was eating but always seemed nervous. He was the largest fish in the tank and noone went after him at all.

I saw it coming the past few days and when i got home today i found him on the mp10. I went to grab him with tweezers and he was still alive.

I hate putting fish in the freezer. I just got a bag of water, put him in it, and put him in. The most humane way, and its only a fish, but it still really sucks doing it no matter what the animal.

Condolences

Am so sorry for your loss. We care for the creatures in our tanks but they entrust their lives to us. I also lost my dog 2 years ago now. Even though she was 17 1/2, it was still the hardest thing I have ever done. I still miss her greatly.

The best way is to treat the fish with Vodka first as a sedative then add clove oil to the bag/bowl the fish will spot breathing with in a couple min.

They say its completely painless but how do they really know.

I believe you have it backwards. Clove oil is the sedative, and vodka puts them down.

I know people say rapid freezing with just a little bit of water causes pain due to ice crystal formation, but I would think rapid cooling from tank temps in a good amount of water would prevent that causing the fish to just get lethargic, go to sleep, and then pass like a warm blooded animal would.

you can go to the pharmacy get some over the counter lidocane dissolve it in a little bit of alcohol then put it in about a half gallon of tank water then put the fish in they just go to sleep painlessly
