Help me decide.

I am not leaving, but thinking of time to upgrade. Should I sell the entire setup and start over again and rebuild, or having to move everything.

Have anyone had experience the same?

Thanks for input and thoughts.

PS: I am thinking of getting custom made (48 -60) x 30 x 24, roughly about 150 - 170gal

how much of an upgrade are you making? if current tank is not much less, id say keep the equipment, unless you want to change for some reason. i swapped a 90 for a 120 and used everything i had, just added an extra heater and powerhead. I also bought equip with an upgrade in mind

+1 i also when from a 75 to a 110 used all the same equipment just got a bigger sump the old one was really small. but it all depends on what the equipment is rated for.

location of the new tank makes a big difference. 150-170 gal. is going to be heavy if you go with glass. not an easy task if you were to keep the same location. helped a friend do the same day transfer from a 45 to a 90 at the same location. took the whole day....from 8 am 'til after 1 am. he lost a few acro colonies and some took weeks to recover. same day transfer at the same location for the "big boy" is not really feasible.
i transferred a 75, 2x 15 and a 10 into a 300 gal. system at a different location. i took my time building and cycling. transferred all the stuff in several days and lost nothing....perhaps a cleaner shrimp or something like that.
you're probably better off relocating the current tank first then build the stand, support the floor if needed, add electrical outlets, etc.
i say sell off everything except for the few "must have" livestock. have someone hold those or keep a smaller tank that can be kept as a qt or something. do the build correctly with no time constraint.....it'll take a lot longer than you think.
gl with the upgrade. lmk if you need help or need some "big boy" equipments.....lol.

it would be in the same location. i am thinking of building a 54x24x30 all glass (this should be max i can fit in the corner) about 168 gal from a 95 wave. will be keeping most of the equipments, will be adding another set of LEDs, my skimmers should be able to handle it, i have 2, a deltec apf600 and a tunze (forgot the model) and a 30 gal sump

Is it going in the same place as the current tank?

Can't recall the lighting you have but with a 60" long tank, you'd probably want LED's as regular 48 "bulbs won't fit.

I'd keep the livestock that is the most important to you in a temporary tank and get the new tank up and cycled.

As Tom mentioned - do you have enough electrical outlets in that part of the living room?

i dont really have another place in the house, so have to be in the same location. all the things in my tank can be replace..nothing really have to have, in fact i want to throw away a few things. dont know when i would have this opportunity again, in case she change her mind :lol_large

i have LEDs...thinking of just get rid of everything and start from scratch but this means at least 4 months so will be missing a couple of swaps.
i should have enough juice in the corner

Nah, just one swap..you'll be up and running just in time to fill it up at the Fall Swap

Definitely do it before she changes her mind!!!

there's the PA swap i plan to go on the 28th.. if someone wants the tank then everything else would be easy

Jerl77 runs a 48" fixture on his 60" long 125. Based on that tank it seems to work just fine
