i want to take out my aqua blue special bulb and swap it out for another blue plus, i like the look on the 6 bulb units with 5 blue pluses and one purple plus, but i wasn't sure if this was intense enough for SPS, and would it affect the growth rate possibly.

The purple plus add to algae growth. On a 75 Gallon I would do one at the most. As you said you want to keep 5 blue plus and on purple plus. However the dayight spectrum is important. Why not have 4 B+, 1 purple plus and one AquaBlue special?

It's not that bad if you like blue. But you won't be able to see certain reds and pinks. Pink birds best and hyacinth will just blend into background.
The blue+ put out plenty of par. So you will still have growth.
I just ordered the new coral+. Should be here Monday. Supposed to be between AB special and blue+ in color. I'll see how it looks.

BRS. I'm due to change out 3 bulbs. Try to spread out 3 and 3 so they are always fresh.
Along with new filters and membrane. Just found my RO/DI putting out phosphates, but that's another topic.
