With a new phenominal light on the horizon , what are we gonna do??.

Is this truely competition for the radion lights ? Who is stumped??? Im now leaning more towards ai than radions cause i was looking towards a more colorful spectrum and my ai lights are lacking color pop and i dont want to spend any more money on adding color strips..
So now with two lights offering the spectrum i desire , which one do i buy!.

What would you guys do??

well there one problem with AI thats spot light affect, Radions dont have that. The program for the radion is 100x better then the AI . AI dont have a nature mode and you can ajust the radions to the depht of your tank, AI doesnt have this . Radion cover a 24x24 spread AI dont.

The spot light is cause by not enough lights..some people try to put only 2 on some tanks that need 3 or more... I have 3 on my tank and no spot light affect at all. Radion are ez to control cuz it's a one natural setting. But u can do the same with the Ai light but have to play with the setting.. And yes it is true that the Ai don't cover a 24"x 24".. I'm my experience it coves 24"x18" only.

Spot light effect is from the optics , its hot spots in other words larg amount of light focused in one spot, thats what optics do . If you get a par meter you will see this in your par reading. Radions dont use optics so it a even blend in color spread and spectrum, so even par readings with no optics as to the AI or DIY LEDs with optics you will have high and low reading of par throw out the tank.

Now as for natural mode it dosent benefit fish but it benefit corals, a real natural sunrise and sunset mimics real life conditions

The Radion DOES indeed use "Optics". Instead of being mounted over each individual LED each LED reflector is the "Optics". You could have read that right here"

The XR30w features a pair of parabolic reflectors with a "peanut-shaped" interior contour. The reflectors are protected by replaceable acrylic lenses. Each reflector houses 17 LED bulbs each with individual 135 degree reflectors. While many manufacturers choose to use more narrow optics (e.g. 75 degree), Ecotech designed each bulb for wide dispersion, presumably to avoid the "disco-ball"/banding effect that can plague multi-colored arrays. The large parabolic reflectors help to focus the total light output over the intended coverage area.

Bad/wrong information is worse than no information.

As far as "Natural Mode", more and more coral livestock is "Tank Grown" nowadays. The effect of Sunrise to Sunset is minimal in our environments...And hardly a useable selling point IMO.

Optics and reflectors are 2 diffrent things. Optics focus light in one postion as to reflectors thay reflect light in a wide spread . So the 2 are not the same

Your ALMOST correct. Although technically 2 different things they both accomplish the same thing. The focusing of light from an emitter. A reflector can be designed to focus light in any pattern you'd like the same way optics do.

Good point bobby , as I almost killed my fish with a freak lightning storm from my ai lights that was set on random and started at 4 am when my tank was pitch black!!! The natural element of nature is far removed from a lot of our tank inhabitants with the exception of a few critters like mystery wrasses that don't breed in captivity.

I love the AI dont get me wrong , Im just saying that when i had my DYI leds fixture this was the problem i had and friends of mine had with any unit with optics. The fixture look great the color combo is great but the should of done away the the optic and put reflectors instead.
