Im not sure what benefits come from what size fuges.
In my experience, the time nuisance algae disappeared from my tank immediately followed the time I started my fuge. And my fuge is tiny compared to my tank.
The benefits with any fuge are there, they may be larger with a larger fuge. But anything is better than nothing.
And, if you have LR in the display tank, then the fuge will be much more of a benefit than rubble rock in there.

The benefits of te fuge would be the DSB which he will have no bed in the tank. and then the Macro. A small amount of macro can help a lot and will grown like wildfire.
Controlling levels is the most important (like we all dont know that). But with the LR in the tank there should be plenty of filtration, then with DSB will add more, and then the macro to help control some levels.
I do not think that I will ever make a reef without a fuge.
