Nat Geo moment in my tank...kind of sad though

So last Friday I purchased a few things at manhattan aquariums, a beautiful acan echinata, and two purple firefish. Well I noticed that my jawfish was not to keen on the firefish so I started to pay close attention and this is what ended up happening. The jawfish had two holes that he would go back in forth between. Now he starts to torment the two firefish, until they dart into one of his holes, at which point he proceeds to throw mouthfuls of sand onto the hole, basically burying them. I couldn't believe it!! I have not see the firefish in a few days, I assume the jawfish buried them and they possible died? or will? I'm not sure. It sucks, but what can I do....ugh.:fishhit:

dig em out or your ammonia will spike, maybe not instantly but as soon as the rotting corpse is exposed it will bleed toxic garbage

Its a bad deal either way. Digging into a DSB isn't good to do either, I'm just going to keep an eye on things all week and see what happens.

I spoke too soon! I was watching longer, the sand collapsed in on the whole and I can see at least one of the fire fish inside. Hopefully both of them are good.

If they were to die, your system should be able to consume two firefish without much trouble.

I can definitely see both of them. I used a flashlight and could see both of them. Hopefully they'll come out. I shot some mysis in there and they both ate it no problem.

my pair are always out and about. i think they're hiding because of the jawfish. hopefully they will eventually tolerate each other. at least they're eating, that's a good sign.
