Hi guys,

I have been overseas for more than 2 years and now I'm back and want to get back into the hobby. I feel there is a lot of new technology, lighting, power heads ...etc since I disassembled my reef tank. I would appreciate if there is someone out there who has an updated reef tank (soft an hard corals) with the new lighting and technology who can give me a tour of their tank and suggestions on what I need for my new set up. Here is a picture of my old tank.
I live in Astoria. Thanks a lot!

Your tank looked very nice. Just because something is new doesn't necessarily mean it is better :) Do keep in mind that most here will tell you the old adage..if it ain't broken, don't try and fix it! It seems that what you were doing was working very well.

Do you still have any of the equipment from you prior set up? If so, why not tell us what you have and what you are hoping to achieve with the new set up..and we can go from there?

Hi Kathy, I still have the sunpod metal halides, deltech skimmer and oceanic chiller. I'm reluctant to use halides again, although I LOVE the shimmering effect but I'm concerned about the overheating and electric bill. Can I get the same shimmering effect with LEDs? will they fully support SPS growth?

OMG where is that Regal Angel now? ; )

I would be more than happy to show you my tank except it's a bit more towards old school and low maintenance. I love my metal halides and I am the tank's automator ; )

Well, it has been over 2 years, I hope this Regal is happily swimming somewhere in NYC :)
I do love metal halides as well, but I think I want to switch to a more of an "auto pilot" kind of tank that is less needy :)

I hope so, gorgeous fish : )

I am slowly trying to automate things just a bit. My next toy will be an auto top off which will also dose kalk. That will be a big help. I would like to switch to LEDs one day but my halide fixture looks great and does the job. I hope to build a LED fixture one of these days with a DIY kit. I'm not in a rush though, too many other tank related projects to tinker with at the moment and enjoying every minute of it.

Enjoy getting back into the hobby : )

After buying the tank set up I ended up putting everything on hold, no good reef stores nearby and will be a hassle to get to the ones in the city. I actually have my brand new set up for sale now. Thanks for asking.
