Interest on bringing back tank of the month....

Im trying to see if anyone has any interest in bringing back the Tank of the month. I like it when i see the ones on reefcentral and was wondering if anyone cares for it to be brought back. It will give dedicated reefers the ability to put their tanks in the spotlight. (if we have enough interest maybe we can get it approved) :bagfish:

It isn't a matter of interest, and there was never a decision to discontinue the feature. It has simply proven surprisingly difficult and time consuming to get high enough quality photographs and write-ups from members.

It has been decided that poor photos and write-ups are not worth the effort and worse than no feature at all.

Randy the member who Qualifies should write Up his own information with a guideline that mr.com makes for the tank of the month winner. And he or she would have to take their own pics which will be submitted to mr.com for review. I think it would be great for the community.

I would like it but like randy said who on here has time to drive around the tri-state looking for TOTM. Unless the member who wants it pays the photographer for his/her time gas and tolls but i cant see a person doing that

i can take high res photos of any tank that wins on long island if that helps the cause.

That has been the process and it has worked sporadically at best. Kathy is the point person, and she may have stuff in the pipeline, I'm not really sure. Certainly, she has been consumed by other more pressing events of late. You'd be surprised how few people can take truly good shots of their tanks--especially since so many now use LEDs. Your typical tank build thread photos are not good enough IMO. Something needs to elevate them beyond those or there is no point.

And how would we know if that persons tank is really his/her? Would you like to see pics of a tank with a old blackberry cell phone. It really needs to be done right or it just dont come out right

I understand randy. But i think if someone is given the award i would think they would make the effort to borrow someones hr camera or have someone they know take good pics of the tank. Which would then be submitted to mr.com for review.... As well as their writeup

No, thanks. Not unless Rule #1 for TOTM is the ability to wield the English language proficiently. TOTM are often used as a guide or worse - "followed to the T" by beginners, don't need some half baked summary.

Ok but now your asking a person to volunteer there time looking through hundreds of photos of ugly tanks with a few gems in it. And like i said how do we determine if the tank is really that members tank in the photo?

Duke im just trying to bring back something back that is awesome to see. Im sure there are many members that are qualified and willing to give up some time to help. Or maybe tank of the season so it would be done 4 times a year but tank of the month would be better. I highly doubt someone would take fake pics and go through all the write up on a fake tank lmao. Also another guideline would be you need to have a tank thread

For every 10 great ones there is 1 or 2 bad ones. Like anything else it will be a disater if we cant get a representitive to go to the TOTM winners house and do it hands on. If someone wants that title so bad pay the person coming to the house for the interview and pictures then i can see it working
