for instance a 72" 150 gallon tank vs. a 150 cube??

I would say no. You still want to turn over the amount of GPH.

not sure the 1262 enough pump, ziggy suggested the waterblaster pumps, might pull trigger but i still need a few other things so thats the only hang up at this point

What is the total head height from sump to return nozzle?

The HY5000 is a nice pump, if the head pressure is high maybe do the HY7000. The eheim 1262s are also solid pumps.

Ehiem 1262 hands down. Mine has been running for 3 years now and not a problem. Where are they on sale at? I might pick up another one.

thanks guys, i am prob looking at 5' of head give or take few inches. i would also like to run a reactor from the pump: i should have added that as it could sway answer?

i had 5ft head on my tank, i checked flow at the lock line in tank, it was less than 400gph. really well made pump if thats enough flow for you.

You could buy a small maxi jet to run a reactor, I run my gfo reactor with a maxi jet. I don't like to run multiple items off of one pump.

At 5 ft head a 1262 is suppose to be around 750 gph and a 1260 is around 450 gph. I use the 1262 at around 5 ft head and i run 2 reactors and ive never checked it but im sure its more than 400 gph.

you had me thinking may be i had 1260, i checked they are 1262. tomorrow i will check it at 0 head may be their something wrong with it.
