I have a pair of picassos - the male is from a breeder in florida whose parents came from Doni. The female is an offspring of wild caught female picasso from bali and male from solomon islands

They are breeding now but I don't have the time to raise the fry. If anyone local wants to raise the fry, we can work something out and split the offsprings.

The clowns can be seen in this thread on the bottom of the page

I would be very interested in doing this with my students. I teach a marine bio elective at a middle school in Brooklyn. We are pretty much stumbling through our first year together in the course but raising fry would give us some pretty cool learning opportunities.

I understand that the challenge is to get them through the first 2 weeks. I haven't looked into the process in detail but I have a general idea. Green water to feed rotifers then the fry need to be fed around the clock for the first week or so before they can be converted to baby brine. So this is very time consuming - please do some research into the process and make sure that you have time to do this.

I need to figure out a way to catch the newly hatched fry too. Need to time the day so I can switch off the main pump and collect the fry with a light.

collecting the fry is one of the easiest procedures ..you just need to
When the eggs are initially laid. they will appear orange in color at first. After a few days they become more purple in color and eventually look more silver. Once the eggs begin to look silver in color hatching is usually imminent. Hatching will occur a couple of hours after the tank's lights go out. If the tank's temperature is between 78 and 82 degrees the eggs will usually hatch on the 8th evening after they have been laid.

when they hatch you take a flash light and guide them to a spot since they are attracted to the light and from there you can collect them with a bowl..dont collect them with a net

I wasn't clear. I think if someone else is raising the fry, pulling them after hatching is not ideal since they will then require transfer. There is also the fact that you will undoubtedly lose fry to predation as they are born if they hatch in a full blown reef-tank. It would be much easier to pull out the egg clutch the day or two before hatching for transfer.

U can set up a tank with the same temp, salinity,ph and cover every possible light including the light from the heater ,place a long airstone across the heater so that the larvae don't get attracted by any light specialy the heaters ,bcus they will to close to the heater n die ,so cover the intire tank with a black bag or construction paper so I can be very dark in there move them in that tank on hatching night place a airstone next to the eggs n give it enough air so it can make the eggs wave like as if they are been fan by the father male clown, after lights are out within 45-1hr all your eggs will hatch on that tank. U can adds the green water n rotifers, make sure u keep that water on point very clean n make sure u give them enough oxigen so your water start swinging n wipe everything out remember key words mild light ,very clean water, feed them well u can skip the bb ,plenty of oxygen rotifers n larvae need oxygen can can purchase a breeder kit from reefmariculture it brings everything ,green algae, rotifers,n atohime food 3 parts ,u need your rodiculture going first after that cake here a good book that just came out cheaper than clownfishes ,but if you can get joice Wilkerson s book get that it would help u alot but this book here is a good one I' be spoken to the guy that wrote it n he knows his stuff the book is called (( clownfish 411))
