3am my over flow alarm went nutz. my skimmer was flipping out spilling over, this saved alot of potental damage. every should have one of these. they cost around $10 bucks alot cheeper then a flood!! I dont know why at 3am it started to over flow somthing may have spawned to cause this!!!

good catch! preventative measures like this are so important. Too many of us reefers learn the hard way... another option that I am using is to drill a float valve into my skimmer and automatically shut it off if it overflows or is full.
Of course this requires some type of controller which most serious reefers have.

To let you know when you are home yes, it does nothing if you are out and no one hears it... certainly better than nothing but there should be some sort of control attached to it.

I meant only in response to his question. I agree that more control is even better. Like you said a float switch inside of the cup will do it.
Also you may want to have the cup just overflow into your sump than on the floor.
