I have a 39G DT w/ a custom built sump (approx 12-15G sump). The section of the sump where I would put the skimmer is only slightly over 7" wide. When I had the sump built I was thinking that I would be getting a SWC160. However, I am now concerned about the modified meshwheel impeller, the cheap Atman pump, and of course the owner's smuggling history. Can anyone recommend a good skimmer for a tight space? I have been running a BM3.5plus that came with my original setup and it is just not cutting it. Most of the skimmers that I have been looking at are just too wide.

You can use the one I have for sale. Marineland 100. Has a small footprint and I was using it in a 10g sump I made. Onky needs 4.5inch space and works great. I you can get the bubble magus 3 that I upgraded to from bulkreefsupply.com.

I am looking to replace my Bubble Magus 3.5 with something better. Both the BM3 and from what I can tell the Marineland 100 would be a downgrade from my current setup. But I do appreciate the input and welcome any other suggestions.

I have a swc 120 skimmer if ur interested its 18" in Height with a 6" X 7.25" Footprint.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had my sump built to fit the SWC160, but I now have some concerns with regard to the meshwheel impeller and Atman pump. Have you had any issues with restarting your SWC after turning it off?

I have never had any problems with the skimmer pump. Every time I shut the skimmer off it always starts up.

Good to know. The easiest thing for me would be to buy a SWC160 since I know it will fit. I have read some things online about people switching out the meshwheel impeller for a Red Dragon Pinwheel impeller to solve their issue. I may just get the SWC160 and do the MOD. Has anyone here tried this? ...of course doing this doesn't reconcile my ethical issue of supporting an owner of a company that has been in trouble for attempting to illegally import live rock and marine animals, but I haven't read anything recent about this and the company is still around. So he must have gotten past all of that?

Unless I'm wrong the Remora is a HOB skimmer. I'm looking for an in sump type no wider than 7". Preferably with a gate valve adjustment, a decent & quite pump, and a needle/pinwheel impeller...am I dreaming, or does this exist? The SRO SSS1000 would be perfect if it was a .5" narrower.

Sorry I mean the Aqua C Urchin:

- 19" tall x 6" wide x 2-3/4" deep
- 6" x 6" footprint (pump included)
- Minimum vertical clearance is 23"
- Water level exit height is 12-1/4"

I ended up buying a new Reef Octopus NW110B. I decided to get a new one because there have been slight variations from model year to model year. I just installed it last night. It fits into my sump perfectly. Still trying to dial it in. I know it will take a while to break in.
