My tank has been up for 3 years now. I am looking to add more live rock. Is it safe to add more live rock to my already established tank? Or will it cycle again? I was looking to add 10-20 lbs worth.

All the best,

James

Thanks fishman!

It can be done but your safest bet would be to thro it in a tub with power heads and a heater. Put some food in and test for a couple of days. If you have a mini cycle, it will be in the tub not your tank

If I get it from an established tank do I still have to do this?

Yo shouldn't have to. It all depends how long the rock is out if water and how much die ff there is. Since tour tank is established, it should be able to handle a small amount of die off. Remember, things start dieing on the rock after being out if the water for just a couple of minutes

Cured rock from an establish tank can be used right away . When transporting the Rock , wrap it up in newspaper to prevent die off.. Most people think that water is the key , in fact water is just a vessel to carry nutrients . The best system is an open loop system where water comes in and completely out all day long..
I just set up a few tanks last week and there ready for sps's already just caus I bought live rock from a 2 year old system that was being dosed.
As far as adding a few rocks I don't see a problem to an existing system , add in one at a time.. And wait a few weeks b4 adding the others, go slow If the rock not cured..

I want to do somethings different to my tank when I upgrade lighting and powerhead.
