hi, I have 2 yellow tail damsels in my tank as I was cycling my 28g nanocube and recently added a six line wrasse( yesterday) . the damsels are outright intimidating and acting very aggressively toward the wrasse. I understand damsels can be territorial and aggressive. will they back off and let him be? or is this a case of futility and I either return the wrasse or get rid of the damsels. thanks in advance for any sound advice.

I'd get rid of the damsels. Even though the wrasse can be territorial, the damsels are worse and it's hit or miss with a wrasse. Also, either or are a pain to get out.

Damsels are a nightmare- give them away.

the wrasse is just taking the abuse, he seems to be a mild mannered..
I am thinking I will try to get the damsels out and see if the wrasse will harass the clowns I hope to add in the next few weeks.
any chance they get used to each other and live in peace?

well I say if you bought em try and get them to co-exist. Remove all aqua scape. Then collect the fish in one bucket and cover for a short time. say 1 hour. Re-scape tank with new hiding areas. Place wrasse in first. 2 hours later add 1 damsel. Then 2 hours after that the last. If after this they still chase hard then take them back to where you bought them and see if they will give you at least 50% credit. Or you can sale sale them on MR to a new reefer who is cycling a tank.
You are entitled to your opinion, however...Please do not give this advice on this site! Cycling a new tank with damsels is not something we recommend.

x2...that was old school thinking..we've come along way since those days...I would also do some research on your fish selection ...any territorial fish will be a terror in a tank that small....even the yellow tails, which are among the more peaceful species of damsels will defend a territory...there are plenty of more peaceful fish for a nano.

it would be Smackdown..Maroons are among the most aggressive clowns especially when large..also if you like the yellow tails I would only keep one...if you have a pair and they mate they will really get aggressive defending their nest..
