I have a 150 gal Tank with one corner overflow and a 40 Gal sump. The bulkheads are for 1" pipes. I am looking at external return pumps and wanted to see what your thoughts on as for pumps and power? I was looking at the Little Giant-4-MDQX-SC Pump which has a Flow rate: 1,325 gph at 0 feet. With my plumbing which will have a few 90's in it and about a 6 foot run to the return to the tank. Is this too much power? I know I can throttle it down with a valve but my thoughts are why throttle it down and waste the power of it when I can simply go with a smaller pump? What are your thoughts?

I got 150 gal. also, i use 2.600 Gal./pump, i use to have 1.500 gal. but i like more flow, more flow u got, more detritus u remove out ( in my opinion ,the faster flow u got, then more detritus u take out, that mean , less Nitrate, less PO4 , then more clean ,healty tank u got) u need filter sock ( 200 micron and good Protein Skimmer) Vio

If you want to use that pump it may be too much for one 1 inch drain. You could to opt to run an herbie over flow method using both bulk heads as drains and run your returns over the top.
I currently run a herbie over flow with 2- 3/4 inch and 2- 1 inch emergency drains with 1450 gallon external pump on a 120 gallon tank. Going through my 40 breeder sump it's silent
