Can I borrow it for a day? Just got a Hydra for my second tank and I ordered a Director but its not clear when I will get it. 20lb bag of new Hawaiian black live sand from CaribSea in it for you if you like.

I just want to put a basic program in while I wait for the director unit.

It would have to be the new wireless controller, not the old one.

Sorry I do not think that will work. The controller needs to be within range to continuously transmit the signal to change. Otherwise it will just stay on after programming.

The controller needs to be hooked to the lights for the lights to run on a program. Without it the unit will run at 100%. This due to the "brains" of the system being in the controller and not built into the body of the light.

I would have gone right for the controller. The director is still in beta and they even said on the site it's a first come first serve basis. Only know this because I was thinking about going that route also. Got my controller shipped next day from Amazon. Might want to see if you can cancel the order and go the controller route until they have a more regular shipment of the directors

Yeah I was under the assumption the fixture has it's own on board memory like a Radion.

I think I'm just going to sit tight and use another light I have handy in that tank. Nothing but LPS right now in that second tank anyway.

No the unit needs to be continuously plugged into the controller for it to work or it will go to 100%.

If the Hydra is like the Vega... It's working on RF transmitted from the controller via "wireless"... So the controller needs to be in range of the fixture itself to work. It will not turn on/off without a controller being within range.
