There are a lot of danger that comes owning a Aquarium. First of course is electricity. Too many plugs and outlet overload. Than the tank itself. Leaking or the weight might be a concern. Poisons fish and corals such as Zoas . What about bacteria in the water. Equipment failure ect. What other dangers should we look out for.

my grandfather, who was my inspiration, had many tanks before and this was in the 90s. he used to use power outlets and unfortunately salt creep started a fire. I was like 13 at the time and luckily my sister couldnt sleep. she walked downstairs after hearing sparks to find the fire. She woke us all up and fire dept was down the street so fast response.

I try to keep my tank power supply from this and warn others when I go to their houses with a potential hazard.

EvoIX reefer, salt creep I never knew that. Thanks for sharing.. That had to be scary We need to be reminder of this stuff. We just keep adding and adding more demand on electricity. Other reason I went to kessil lighting. As much we want a piece of reef in our home. Safety should be our number one concern first.

When you have a surge protector make sure its not lying down and as far away from the tank as possible. When you put your hands in the tank wear gloves. If you have poisonous fish make sure you keep a eye on him when your hands are in the tank. Dont mess with zoas or palys without protection. Dont swallow the water dont boil rocks with palys or zoas or even use hot water on them. Always ground your equipment.
