Make sure you calibrate it and not with rodi water.
Nothing wrong with a float/needle type. Just have to season it, as per directions, and test it against an accurate refrac to know how far above or below it's reading.
The instructions say to calibrate it with distilled water.
that means you'll have to also have a refrac no, or have someone close by with one?

Any of my lfs, which I like to frequent and support anyway. Have had the same float meter for years. Have tested it anytime I've had to do hypo, and every time it's been exactly 1 point under what the level actually is.

I do, and also recalibrate every 3 months
( 1bottle will last you a very long time )
