DIY siphon starter

Does anyone know of a better way to start a siphon than just sucking the tube?

My ato reservoir is in a very tight cabinet and the only way to fill it is by starting a gravity siphon from a bucket of water on a nearby table...the thing is it's annoying and messy to suck on the tube, wait for the water to start flowing, and then put it into the reservoir.

What else can I do to start the siphon? (I don't want to buy one of the expensive gravel vacums that have a start mechanism)

Fill the hose with water, cover one of the ends with your finger and then put the hose to the reservoir and let go your finger

Meaning fill the hose with a funnel? Ok sounds like it might work

You can put the opening up against a powerhead and it will start pushing up the water
