I trust you didn't read the post properly from Leslie - if she scratched her tank with a credit card, the tank is likely acrylic - please pay attention when posting so that people don't take your recommendations out of context.
try to pm or email rich ,he make these cool reef scappers that you glue on to your magnets ,ask a few ppl on the board if they use this on an acrylic tank ,make life so much easier
The tank is glass - I REALLY scrubbed. I didn't notice the scratches that I made until they started filling up with algae. It takes about 1 month to get as bad as my pic. I go over the area with the magna float, but it doesn't keep it from spreading.
I think Marrone was talking about some super strong magnets? I need something super strong, but skinny as it is on the curved part of the glass.
Man thats really strange. I can't believe a credit card will do that to glass. I second the tang suggestion. I have 3 of them that really keep my algae in check.
I got this stuff growing on my tank, have one of those sponge pads and it doesn't do it and i doubt the magnet thing will either. I have been using a razor blade (my tank is glass) and it works well, just gotto have it at the right angle when your scraping it off and not apply way too much pressure and it won't scratch your glass, and try to get it in one shot. When your scraping and rescraping the same spot over and over is when your increasing your chances at scratching the glass. Its all about finesse!
oh and try to get a leather belt, take the rough side of the leather belt and sweep the razor over it back and forth a few times to take off any rough edge thats on the razor that is there when they grind the sharp edge of it. Its almost microscopic, but thats whats scratching your glass when you run it along your glass.
Found out about the grinding excess though he guy who sharpens saw blades for me, when he seen the scratches on my windshield of my car after i used razor blades to remove some laquer spray mist that was in the air that i managed to get all over my car from having it parked overnight in my woodshop. Laquer dust and having it parked in the sun baked that stuff right into my cars finish and on my windshield. My car still feels like it has high grit sandpaper as a finish after 5 coats of wax. sigh
