you can also get dead LR ( I think thats what its called) to take up space under your LR, or so thats what I've heard, if the prices start getting too high for ya. I think after a while the coraline or whatever will start to grow on it as well, but I dont remember the specifics. Im sure someone will jump in and correct me

So you guys are saying that dead rocks can come back to alive once they in the tank for a while, correct?

BTW, let's say I have too much live rock and I take some of them store in some dry place (without any water). Could I still revive them in a few years?

I just picked up some rock from marcorocks.com. Way better value than buying locally, this guy sells the rock dry so it will take a bit longer to cure and require more water changes, but I bought 50lbs of rock for $120 shipped and I completly filled a 36 gallon bowfront tank I am using to cure it in. That should give an idea of the volume you are getting for you money.

I dunno but I think a few of our registered vendors can get live rock as cheap as you paid for base rock J.

what base rock are you guys talking about?
I thought there are live sand for the base and big chunks of live rock on the top.

I'm assuming base rocks are small pieces of LR? why people put base rock in the tank? so no live sand when people use base rock?

I THINK what they mean by base rock is that dead LR that i mentioned, cheaper to buy. yes you use the live sand as the substrate, but he means base as if you're stacking the rock, putting the base rock underneath and then putting the live rock on top of it, the dead LR will eventually start growing stuff on it also. live rock from what i understand, since I have never gotten a box, is wet, moist in the bag, dead LR is all dried up, no life, but you can still use it

Base rock is dead rock, that's it dry dead rock from the ocean, it was once live but it has been left out to dry and that's it. It will become live after a while in the tank. Same way you have live sand and sand, reg sand after a little while in the tank will become live after a while as well.

Try Ronen from Deepwater. He's a vendor and has live rock available cheaper than Fishtown

Yeah, but he sells his LR by boxes. I only have a 20G tank and one full box of LR would be too much for me. I may just buy some from fish town.
