dark red algae growing on lr

is that a bad thing to have on live rock,if so what do i do to get rid of it .i would post a pic but camera took a sh..

its hard to tell with out a pic but sounds like cyano(slime algae)its most like due to algae cycle.something that happens to new tanks.

It could be cyano. Is it red and slimey?? And comes off really easy if you point a powerhead or wave your hand strongly around it?

no its doesnt come off easy at all i tried to brush it with tooth brush and wouldnt come off

Could be red coraline? Is it flat against the rock, conforming to its shape?

i agree with nano there are spots on my rock that appears red (more darker)and when i come to see its coralline.

Philly is on the money with his link on red turf. My prior outbreak was associated with early inconsistent batches of IO salt but after talking & reading about it, it seemed more likely that this was a widespread nussiance algae brought in with Bali aqua-cultured corals.
Also the article was dead on right that the only cure I found was using "true" Mexican turbo snails.
