My false clown has always been a bully in my tank. I had him for over a year in a 10 gallon with live rock and live sand,with a scooter blenny. He was tiny back then and he didn't bother the blenny. six months ago i upgraded to a 36 gallon bow and added more sand,crushed coral,and more live rock,along with a yellowclown goby,purple fire fish,barnacle blenny[who died in a week],a couple of snails and some hermits,a peppermint shrimp,no live coral in the tank.The clown never bothered the clown goby or the shrimp but him and the fire fish would have stare downs and chase each other.Now that he's a little bigger he starting to nip at the fire fish.I figured he has enough caves to hide in,and I was right.I know I'm filled up but last week I picked up a pearly jaw fish at new world,I couldn't help it always wanted one and I don't buy fish online so I went to get live brine shrimps and ending up spending 34.99 on this fish not thinking about the bully back home.To cut this short i had to separate the clown within the tank,Will a another clown calm him down or do i donate my oldest fish who stuck with me through all the tough times we had with the 10 gallons?

welcome to MR! its good to see another bronx member.its wierd that your false perc is being very aggresive.anyway i dont know if adding another clown would be a good idea being that your pretty high in the fish count but if your willing to get rid of a fish or two then i would try another small clown.it sucks to have to get rid of the trooper but sometimes you just have to do it for the sake of your tank.good luck with that.D

Clownfish Bully
Clownfish along with tangs are extremely territorial. They often become more aggresive with a host anemone or coral. They will defend their area to the death.
In the case of perc/ocellaris they are the calmest clowns next to nigripes. My akinydos clowns is a bully and will move my hermits and snails away from her anemone. She picks them up and carries them away.
I would suggest getting rid of some fish and adding a another clown. Make sure that the clown you add is much smaller then yours now. Most likely your clown has changed to a female and will not accept a large female. When cramped in a tank with alot of fish clowns will come out fighting.
They may be clowns but they do not clown around with their area.

not true. i can't stick my hand in my tank w/out getting bitten by my nigripes. he/she is definitely a tough guy. The only fish that doesnt get bossed around by the nigripes is my yellow tang.
i see you live in NNJ. Ever see what happens w/ someone sticks their hand to close to the Nigripes Pair in the SPS tank at Absolutely Fish? :eek1:

Nigripes are known for being shy fish.

I hat to argue but my experience is quite different than that....My nigripes doesn't hide at all...He swims up and dares you to stick your hand in the tank. I have a single nigripes clown who does not have a host and he is the most brazen fish in the tank. The only thing that makes him hide is a net, so hold a net in one hand while i work with the other so i don't get bitten.
The pair at Absolutely Fish are not shy in the least, when someone gets their hand too close both of them attack relentlessly.
You are the first one I have ever heard that considers the Nigripes a shy fish. All I know is ive never been attacked by a Percula. So the statement about Percula/Ocellaris being the calmest next to Nigripes is FAR from the truth in my experience. I'm sure the employees at Absolutely Fish who have been bitten on many occasions would disagree as well.

This argument will eventually boil down to "each fish has individual personalities outside the norm."
well i don't agree w/ "outside the norm" because i have yet to see a shy nigripes lol
every one i have seen pretty much rules the tank.
