lighting on eBay

Hi All,

I just started a new aquarium and really loving it.

:smash:Unfortunately I went to a store in brooklyn (not listed as one of the dealers on this site) and was misguided by the people there. i overpaid (big time), and got equipment that i will probably throw away because i was not given the proper info. (I am sure it was partially my fault). My advice to other beginners is to do a lot of homework and ask a lot of questions!!!

here's my question...I saw a JEBO brand light on eBay, and the price seem good. Particularly the:

JEBO ODYSSEA 24" BLACK QUAD Compact Flourescent Fixture (Item number: 250118457029).​

Is this a good chice for a FOWLR or Future reef 26 gallon tank?

Welcome to manhattan reefs...It's not your fault you were misled at that shop,you just did what alot of people did when they were starting out.As for the light it's a good choice,and will work,but you should look into some of the t5 florescent fixtures.They would be alot better choice as far as colors and growth,if you plan on going with a reef tank.
You should check with some of the vendors on this site that carry them,they will point you in the right dirrection.:approve:..

dont get the oddyssea.....i had a 36" fixture once when i first started and even though it didnt blow up...the bulbs started getting dim in a few months........i would definetly go for a 24" 4 bulb tek light....u can keep almost any coral with it........but if u got a budget.....i seen some finnex pc fixtures on ebay that might be a better quality than odyssea.

You really have to give careful thought to what you are going to stock if you plan on staying fowlr then get good lights (t5, powercompacts) but if you decide to go reef your going to have to get the best lights you can afford (metal halide).
Another thing you can do is wait under a week someone here always sells lights.

Welcome to MR. What's the name of the store? IMO I would stay away from that brand. Cheaper is not alway good.

Not the best advice.

If you are staying FO you can go standard T-8 fluorescent or PC's depending if you want your tank brighter.
You can get away with PC's in a reef depending on what corals you want to keep & the depth of the tank.

T5's & Halides are both great for a full reef.

if you are planning to go reef in the future, why not just spend a little more for T5 lights and later on you don't need to buy replacement light

Its good to know that there is a great "local" online resource like MR.

The store is World Classs Aquarium on Flatbush Ave. The guy that helped me was great to work with, but I got ripped price-wise. For example, I paid almost double for the exzact same filter than if I had purchased online from Drs. Foster and Smith.
