I used fw from the tap, idk if that was the proper method but it is on point, I double check with other refratometer and hydrometer.

You're supposed to use distilled water according to the instructions..which is available at supermarkets, drug stores, etc..

If you don't feel like going out and buying a gallon of the stuff (costs about $1.00) you can make it at home (or so I was told anyway). If you take a clean pot with a clean lid and boil a little water ..the water that forms on the inside top of the lid is 'distilled' water... just pour it off into a clean cup..do it a few times so you have enough. Let it cool down to room temperature...and poof, you have free distilled water without leaving your home!

thanks kathy....i will try that.....

i had to get a new refractometer from ebay and it didnt have the calibrating solution.....

its also because i have a jbj digital salinity tester and im very unconfident on its accuracy...which reads 1.023.......according to my refracometer.....my salinity is about 1.028!

That's a great idea, Kathy. You only need a few drops for the refractometer. I put a clean dry plate in the freezer for 15min, take it out and hold it over either a pot of boiling water or in my case the hot water maker, the distilled water will condense on the cold plate and falls off the plate onto the refractometer. A few drops are all I need.
