Chris, this is a good idea. We used to do this with a bunch of north Jersey reefers. The newbies got a lot of advice from the vets and the accomplished reefers got to show off their tanks. In the end we all got to drink a lot of beer. I'd be up for hosting in Jersey.

Awilda, your tank would actually be a good selection for this purpose. Don't be too critical of yourself.
taat2d, you would be defying the purpose of such events. The best way for me to learn was to go and look at systems and figure out what techniques were best suited for what I am able to do. If a bunch of experienced guys go to your house, you'll get a million solutions on how to make your tank better, none of which suit your husbandry techniques. You should focus more on possibly attending a meeting or 2. Neither me or Randy is more than 15 minutes from the bridge. You've also got a good reefer or 2 out there who would also be capable of hosting events.
It doesn't require a full blown SPS tank to host. You also don't have to be the most experienced/least experienced to attend.
Also, the idea isn't to sharpshoot a system. It is for the host to show what has worked for them, why and how.
I just thought it would be so much more helpful to get some of you more experienced reefers over to take a look at what I got. It's hard to talk to soo many people, the try to figure out what the best course of action. Trying to incorporate different ideas, and techniques is almost impossible trying to pinpoint one GOOD way to keep my tank. Don't get me wrong I'd love to get together and see some incredible tanks that you guys have setup. I just that in the long run it would have helped to have my setup and tank husbandry looked at and critiqued. There is no learning without constructive criticism. I was joking about everyone pointing and laughing. And most importantly momma didn't raise no dummy. The first one to point and laugh at my tank get an O'doules........:p:eek1:

I'm definitely in for seeing others' systems and learning... won't be up to host for some time, though... not that you'd laugh (though you might), there just isn't much to look at yet...

pics don't explain much for me - two-dimensions just don't do it for me. I need to see others' tanks in order to get an idea of what might work for mine!

Thanks for suggesting we do this. I can't wait to begin!

Randy (prattreef) will be hosting an event at Pratt. Tentative date will be July 31st. This will be also be a type of 1 year anniversary for his newest tank which was bought mostly by the donations of MR members. Many of you remember Jim leading this little quest followed by a handful of us moving the tank in and then even more members setting it up.
This is tentative. We are trying to make sure that certain individuals who were key in setting the tank up are able to attend. After that, we will have Randy finalize a time and date.
With Frag Swap and MASNA and Mike in the process of setting up a new tank, Mike and I will probably host a little something in November. I'm thinking of keeping August and September free, unless someone here really feels that they would like to have people over.
