I had a interesting day yesterday with my setup. I was home chilling and heard i pop which sounded like a firecracker. So i went in the room and did not see anything and looked around but i did smell some smoke so i look as much as i could and found nothing. About 2 hours later i here it again and smell something but cant find the problem. i check all my outlets and chords and nothing, Then a Mr guy (frank) comes over and while I'm cutting some frags for him we see i large burst of flames but can't figure out exactly what it is. so now I'm determined to remove everything out my sump to see what was the problem. and to my surprise the last item i remove out my sump and i found it. A mini jet 606 chord was damage and was causing some serious fireworks under my tank.

Wow man, that's crazy good thing you were awake... Did you work near that cord and maybe cut it by mistake or do you think the cord just corroded.. That's the second incident in less than 6 months with a maxi/mini jet ( I forget who the other guy was, but he lost his whole setup.)

Oh and please get a manicure..... Awibrandy I'm really concerned about the situation but he really needs to take care of those nails.

Don't it look like he tried to clean the nail out before he took the pic. The picture of the wire on the table would have sufficed.

Nah, but glad your okay. On your upgrade try to limit as much electrical stuff in the sump as possible so there is less to worry about.

I really don't think so, because the powerhead was freely loose in the sump. and yes. i do need a manicure

actually i looked at the pic before i posted and said what the hell. :)I guess i should of changed it while i had the chance. lol. as for the sump. i will try and limit the powerheads. i will have 1 maxijet 1200 feeding 2 carbon reactors and 1 606 feeding 2 phos reactors. 1 ehiem 1260 feeding the skimmer because i dont think the 1" drian will have enough flo to feed the skimmer from upstairs. and a ehiem 1250 feeding the fuge. OMG. that's alot of powerheads. I have to figure something out.

electric

you find it after i left huh ? something could have fell on that wire or when you moved everything under the tank it could have gotten cut. and a little movement here or there might have caused it to ground out. other than luckily you didnt shock you or the tank be glad it did blow the fuse box when you wasn't home.
