If the below bulkhead is 1" what sizes (ID & OD) parts do I need for everything else?

Durso.jpg

Elbow
Tee
Couplings for tee
Cap
Strainer
Barbed adapter to go from bottom of tee to 1" ID hose

Also, can I get a Tee that screws right on to the outer threads of a 1" bulkhead?

Thanks!

all 1" - most plumbing is measured by the inner diameter.

I am sure it exists somewhere, but you'll be hard pressed to find a standard T that is threaded on one side.

House

I found on at HD just now but it the threaded section wasn't the right diameter.

So you're saying that if I bought a 1" elbow, it would slip right in to the bulkead on the flange side? Then a 1" strainer would slip right into the elbow?

Also, I would need a 1" coupling to slip inside the bulkhead on the base side, so that I could attach a 1" T?

Here's what you need - make sure your 1" bulkhead is female THREADED on the outside of the tank and female SLIP on the inside of the tank. Get a 1" SLIP female TEE, in the center portion of the tee cut yourself a 1 inch long or so piece of 1" pipe, then use a 1" male thread to 1" female slip adapter piece. Viola you now have a 1" tee that is female slip and 1" male threaded in the center branch.

Nice. I'm just going to have to go somewhere that has all of this so I can play with it in person. I'm getting tired of placing orders then having to wait for more parts. Now to find a plumbing supply store that has all of this.

HD has it all except bulkheads - if you came to my house, I'd show ya how to do it -

I've often thought about making a Podcast of this - such an easy thing to follow with a little direction and so complicated otherwise until you "do" it.

BTW, have you looked at Rich Durso's site? He has instructions on how to build these.

Good luck

What Jim said - he helped me with mine originally when he drilled my tank :usa1:

The threads on the outside of the bulkheads are USUALLY not the same type of threads on PVC pipes. I forgot the technical term, but PVC threads get tighter the further in it turns, and the threads on the outside of the bulkhead stays the same.
There probably are parts like House mentioned, but I gave up looking and ended up just used PVC glue and slipped it on the inside of the bulkhead.

If you get the threaded on the inside bulkhead, thats usually compatible with PVC

My local hardware store actually has all of these parts. Except it looks as if my confusion lies in the fact that there should be pieces of tubing which would in effect connect all of those parts (Tee, cap, etc.) am I correct?

So I will need:

1" PVC elbow slip, slip (for strainer to go in)
1" strainer, slip (to go in elbow)
1" bulkhead, slip, FPT (for elbow to go in, then threaded male adapter on outside to T)
1" adapter, MPT, slip
1" PVC Tee, slip, slip, slip
1" PVC cap (to drill hole for Durso)
1" (5' minimum) PVC piping (to make it all come together)

Will my 1" ID clear tubing fit onto the PVC piping? (to make it all come together)

Bris,

BY george i think you have it - only thing I would do different is get an extra cap or two - unless you know exactly what you're doing, you'll want a second cap for when/if you make a mistake drilling the hole.

As for the 1" clear tubing - as long as it's PVC you're good to go. if it's vinyl or cast acrylic, NO GOOD.

Seems like you're all set - go glue :)

Why on the clear tubing?

This is what I've got going so far. I wanted to stay away from all PVC plumbing.

Quiet One 3000 to 3/4" bulkhead in sump, up to 2 ball valves (Two Little Fishes) one up to tank, one back into sump for regulation purposes. Ends up at 3/4" bulkhead w/LocLine connector & tapered nozzle for return.

For the overflow, I originally planned to use the pictured 1" bulkhead assembly. Now I'm going to go with a 1" bulkhead, 90 elbow, strainer, to an externally mounted Durso, down to a 1" ball valve, down to sump.
