Hello everyone I was referred to this forum by an employee at Aquarium Adventures today and I wanted to check it out and introduce myself...
Today I started the cycle on my 55 gallon tank with 45lbs uncured live rock and 10lbs of live sand along with 12lbs base rock and 50lbs marine grade sand.
I was wondering if this will be enough to start the cycle or will I need to add a small shrimp..I was told this was plenty without the shrimp. Any info you have for me to help the cycle along would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and I am looking forward to manhattanreefs.com and starting my new tank

Welcome to our world. The uncured LR will be more than ample to jump start your cycle.

Let your tank mature a bit and then you can add some livestock. I'd give it a good four weeks. Skim it wet. Do weekly water changes and you should be fine. Expect to see some algae growth. This is normal.

Good luck,
swimmer

Welcome to MR Pelegic..you've found a great place to learn about reefkeeping.
What are your plans for the tank..corals..fish?
Only time will help the cycle along :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone..I'm from Wantagh..I plan on doing a reef tank with corals with preferably metal halide setup but might go with a T5 HO setup because its more available to me. Eventually I will do just that, but right now I'm focusing on getting my tank cycled properly and most likely just a FOWLR for the first 6 months to year..My rock is pre-cured from live aquaria not totally uncured but in essence it is so I'm not sure if its same as totally uncured live rock for cycling purposes.
