I purchased a second hand light fixture from a fellow MR member a little while ago. I want to change the halide bulb. It's double ended (150w )and came with the fixture which by the wy was a Current. Can someone recomend a brand of bulb I should go with and why. I would also appreciate a great website to order from your own personal experience

I like phoenix and the stock current bulb isn't too bad that came with the light.

Phoenix 14k's are nice tho.

The type of lighting really depends on what kind of animals you will be keeping. If you are keeping acros then you want high light so you need to be a little more selective with your choice of bulbs. Take a look at Sanjay's sight and look at the ones with the higher PAR and pick from there. I have had great luck with XM10K and Ushio10K MH with actinics to give a little more blue.

If you are not keeping acros, pick a color you like, white, blue etc. and go with it. I would try to pick a lamp that has a decent PAR values from Sanjay's site but you don;t need to be the best if you are not keeping acros.

I recently changed my stock bulbs (from ebay brand HOMMBY light) to Phoenix 14k de bulbs, they look amazing! Everyone who knows my tank ask me if "I cleaned the tank or something" because its so crisp and blue. I dont even use my actinics anymore, because its bluer without them. Definitly reccomend
