Hey Guys,
Sanjay asked to come over here and join your community so here I am.
I wrote up this article on West Atlantic SPS Corals which features many species that we dont normally see in the trade. Furthermore, I did all the photography so the corals are framed the same way we would take pictures of aquarium corals. Hope you like the expose of our native corals. Here are some images which are featured in the article.

Welcome to MR, Jake. Hope you find things to your liking and please join in the discussion. Thanks for posting this it is very interesting stuff. Did you happen to get any shots of Mycetophyllia species? I had a gorgeous one years ago ---long story--- and it was one of my favorite corals. I'll see if I can dig up a photo.

Thanks for the welcome and the comments. This article is the first part which focuses on intro and SPS corals. The second part will cover the remaining SPS and the Faviids and I will do LPS including Mycetophyllia in the third part. Mycetophyllia is definitely one of the most unique corals in the Atlantic and I hope the species finds a legal way to be introduced into the hobby.

For those of you who do not know Jake (coralite). He has been writing for Advanced Aquarist and speaking at various clubs and national meetings on water flow.

He has also been out with the Secore group working on the palmata spawning project.
He is also working on this cool coral id guide for ipods. May be he can tell us more about it.

this is a good reminder that the things that we take for granted when we are splashing around in the carribean are pretty darn special.

i went to one of the bahamian "out" islands for thanksgiving and was amazed at all the life in our little bay - spotted eels, rays, triton's trumpets, yellow porites like gum on the sidewalk, crabs pinching us every chance they had, and enormous gorgonians of many varieties, tiny reef fish every where, and a hundred other things. this was all in 3 feet of water. can you imagine what the area must have been like before all the damage was done?

Alright you two, now that I think of it, Gresham told me about MR a while back but we were on the road so I forgot about it. Either way, this is a sweet board and I am happy to participate. The last image I posted is a Mycetophyllia species, pretty sweet eh?
