so I moved to a new house 2 weeks ago and this week have been putting in all the finishing touches on my tanks. On my 75g FOWLR I have about 100 pounds of live sand, and roughly 150 pounds of live rock.

My sump must have cracked in the move and leaked water everywhere. I broke the syphon, and drained the sump, but I cannot seem to get the sump out from under the tank (its too big to be removed without draining the main tank and removing it from the top of the stand)

Do you guys think that running a sump on a FOWLR is really necessary? The only things I had running in the sump was a 15w UV and a phosban reactor. I have an aqua c remora pro (mag 3) running with 2 powerheads in the tank atm. ShouldI get maybe a hang on emperor to help collect particles and call it a day? Maybe figure out a way to get the uv running and ditch the phosban reactor????

What do you guys think I should do???:help:

How big is your sump. I would probably take a razor blade to the sump and start cutting it out as to not disturb the main display. Pull it out plate by plate. But I guess that doesnt answer the question of getting a replacement sump in there without breaking down completely.

Get another sump that fits the stand and can easily take out for maintenance.

For sump(DT could be another story), I prefer acrylics much more than glass survive moves much better than glass less likely to break with all the banging around when changing hardware.

hmmm, well, i think that i am going to have to take this sump out eventually, I just hate the fact that i will have to break it into pieces. Its a toms aquatic wet/dry that I converted into a sump. I would hate to smash it into pieces.

Another question that I have is:

My reef that just got moved has a cpr aquatics hang on refug. Since the move, I noticed that there is cyano growing over the chaeto. Should I bother messing with it, or just leave it alone???

oh yeah another problem also happened. Water leaked all over my UV. It is an aquanetics UV, and I just replaced the bulb inside. The bulb got completely soaked in salt water, but it still works ok. I unplugged it and let it dry out. Do you think that it will burn out fast because the water touched it? Is there anything that i should do to the bulb to help save it??

Rinse the cheato off, there is a circulation problem in those fuges and you could add a small PH in there to help out. Break or cut the old sump out of there. It's going to start to stink after a little while. Mold and mildew will start to grow as well.

demolish and remove the old sump. then ask someone like custom king to build you one on site or take apart the whole tank yadda yadda yadda.

if you do decide not to use a sump I would suggest getting two hang on skimmers. Use the U.V. and the phosban reactor. The tank may looked cluttered but...
you could use the overflow as a mini sump thats the best I could come up with on the fly.

ok, do you honestly think that I really need another skimmer besides a remora pro with a mag 3?

I was thinking that I would hook up the UV and possible the phosban reactor (hang it on the back of the tank) and instead of using phosban, load it up with Chemi Pure.

OR....

ditch the phosban reactor, get a hang on filter (crappy one) and put sheets of poly filter pads in it. (i love those on my nano) and somehow get some chemipure in there.

(I just gave away my old fluval 2 days ago,,, Oh the irony)

yes I would get another remora pro

yes any extr filtration will help. Poly pads are great. U.V. and Phosban will help and you will need carbon.

If your sump is not glass why not use some weld on to fix it?
try to find the leak, if it's on a seam it's an easy job if it's a crack
you can use the weld on to fix it as good as new (unless it's wide)
then glue it and cover it with with some lexan.
