Flow / Pumps

So I have a 125 gallon with an over flow and a Mag 7 .

i am currently going to buy a Mag 18 and put in a dual over flow kit or get the tank drilled.

Any thoughts on that

HEat that will be added from a Mag to mag18

I'd use the "search" feature as this one has been beaten to death.

FWIW:
MAG 18 = 145watts 1800GPH at zero head. Mag pumps are about the most heat adding pumps on the market.

Pan World 50PX = 90watts, external, 590GPH pressure rated

If you were to add a $15-$20 educator/ penductor to the output of the pressure pump you'd get about 3000 GPH in flow but only about 400 through your sump. After all how big is your sump? Do you REALLY want to push 1200 GPH through your sump? That's a lot of flow and noisy as hell.

MAG pumps add a lot of heat to the tank. Problem with them is they tend to leak when run external and putting them in the water makes the temperature go up, up, up.

Is your pump runing in or out of the water?

you're completely right. One DOES NOT need a niagra falls going through the sump. Want extra flow, add powerhead or closed-loop. If the pump is runnig externally I'd recommend BLUELINE pumps from Chamption Lighting

Don't upgrade the pump, add powerheads (SEIOs, Koralia, Tunze)
