Any idea what they are? I didnt have a ruler handy so I used my pointing finger as a size reference. The black one acted like it was on speed and had some nasty looking mandibles.

Those things are pretty common around here. But you should see some of the wacky s**t near the Brookhaven Lab. And i'm not joking. Bees that look like small humming birds.

I would call the Dep or sanitation dept and let them know I think they want to know when these are found -if its the asian long horn beatle-they have a program to exterminate them.I think 311 will give you more info. They seem very seriuos about ridding the trees of these.

I was never much of a squeamish person but whatever little there was went out the window after a semester of Gross Anatomy. Tonite while I was taking out the garbage I saw what I at first looked like white rice all over the inside of the lid. When they started to move I realized they were maggots. First thing I did was run to get a deli container to start collecting them...yummmmmy....for my chameleon and poison dart frogs especially.

So the orange one is a Grapevine beetle, member of the scarab beetle family. The adults are relatively harmless but the grubs are garden pests.
