the easiest way to convert depends on how your wet/dry is set up with your sump if you have one that is.... if its all connected then take all the bio balls and what ever other media you have in there out and add either cheato's or other kind of micro/macro algae(i get confused which one it is)... but remember to add a light or it will die. also where is your skimmer located. you do not want to skim out everything you are adding with the fuge... also add either mericale mud or live sand to the fuge.... i recommend a DSB. 6-7 inches. JMO of course..

Camanuch,

You completely confused me. So take out all of the bio balls and add micro or macro algae. Also, the algae needs a light to stay alive. What do I not want the skimmer to take out and how do I stop it from taking it out? And add live sand to the bottom of the refugium. Ok, so the only part I don't get is the skimmer part.

Thanks,

Mike

I think he is saying to have water going to Fuge that has not been skimmered yet. I have my the overflow line from my tank split so that most goes to the skimmer chamber and some goes to the fuge section. Both overflow into the the middle sump chamber which houses my return pump.

don't turn it into a refugium...It's a waste of time because it wont be big enough.

Just use the wet/dry as a sump. Remove the bioballs, etc. and keep it clean. You don't need to replace it with anything. Live Rock and skimmer are all you need.

you want the water coming from the tank going into the skimmer first. then the fuge then back to the tank. the fuge is also a place for pods to go so you dont want your skimmer to skim out all the pods that just grew before it gets to the tank.

tank -> skimmer -> fuge-> return -> tank

stop "SELLING" the fuge idea not worth it for a fish only tank with large fish you don't have to worry about the last 10ppm of Nitrate and they add work

Thanks very much Wes. There is a filter pad on top of the bio balls, can I assume I should keep that pad there? It catches a lot of crap from the tank. And then I should remove the other pads?

Thanks again.

the pad is fine if you change it out or clean it often. when the crud builds up in the pad your nitrates go up...

I find that the best way to lower your nitrates is to keep your bioload low and to do water changes. That being said nitrates during a cycle are supposed to rise and then fall so during that time don't do anything. If your tank cycles after being set up for some time then you have a problem.

first off i wasnt "selling" anything. he asked how to set it up and i was explaining different ways to set it up. if he does then he does. if he doesnt then he doesnt. i was just trying to help. either way no big deal..
