I've had my tank set up for about six months, I was wondering if cyano is a cycle thing? I have the green type is there a difference between red and green?

My tank is about 8 1/2 months old and I had an outbreak of cyano at month 6-7 also. The way I beat it was to syphon out everything I could during a water change and then kill the lights for about 2 or 3 days to kill what was left. Seemed to work well. I had started to get another small outbreak about 2 weeks ago, just killed the lights for 2 days again when I started to see it and its gone. No adverse effects to corals or fish.

Follow MikeyZO's suggestion. You want to siphon as much of the Cyano out as possible. No moonlights, you want it as dark as possible.

Agreed. Get a piece of like 1/2 inch tubing and use it to syphon all the cyano out of the tank (you can do this and do a water change at the same time). Make sure you get it off the sand, rock, powerhead, etc. Then kill all the lights for 2-3 days. Let us know how it goes.
