Is vaseline safe for reef tank?

Having problems purchasing Pentair/Rainbow Silicone Lubricant. I have tried many of the on-line fish suppliers. Using it on rubber gaskets and rubber o-rings. Someone said Vaseline jelly may work. Is it reef safe? Is it safe on rubber. Has anyone used it? What else can be used?

Check a restaraunt supply for o ring lubricant. It is used for gaskets on ice cream makers

NO!!!!! first of all vasoline is pertolium based and will cause the rubber to swell and break down. it will make your skimmer go nuts!

silicone o ring lubricant can be found at lowes HD or a plumbing supply and are marked for drinking water

I found "plumbers grease" at my local tru-value. The MSDS states it's safe. Pure silicone I believe.

You can get silicone lubricants from a plumbing store. I got mine from Lowe's.

Any food grade lube will work. The oil wont stink if it from the health store, its been purified.

Eheim sells a spray can silicone lube for their O rings, it's just pure silicone. Any type of pure silicone can be used.
