Ok I would like to use my canopy since I got the tank i never put in account that metal haildies need certain distance between light and water ( the legs do this job)

I was thinking of getting metal hailde shows in the link below, 24 inch might work well, since my canopy is 36 inches but gets more narrow towards the front there.

http://www.marineandreef.com/250W_Hamilton_Metal_Halide_Aquarium_Lighting_Retrofits_s/326.htm

What else do I need with these system i do not mind cutting the canopy if I need to but i dont want to make major cuts in it since you can see the top its not a tall tank.

Do i just screw this system on the wood doesnt the back get hot? As you can see I left my current metal hailde on top of the canopy for alittle whiler and it burnt the back of the canopy OPPS:smash:

I thought of this, also wanted a 250 metal hailde so thats why the retro was interesting, but if I stuck with my current light and lengthened the botton it will make it look wierd since it will be high up and basically not cover the tank at all, I prefered it to seem like its sitting on the canopy. I might add wood myself and see how it comes out.

thnaks 4 ur input.

Can length'in bottom of canopy ,but it will cost you.

Sorry ment to add more... So the height looks to be too low for Mh's. Have you thought about T5's ? You can get great growth and you don't need as much ditance from lights to water. They won't really cook the tank and you do different bulb setups to achieve the coloration your looking for.

Maybe halides just aren't for you? You do realize that you almost burned down your canopy and house?
