I'm starting up my first reef tank, and I'm wondering where you folks would suggest I get my live rock from. I'd like to get something cured, but still with plenty of hitch hikers. FWIW I'm on Long Island.

I would get everything from either this forum or craigslist. I'm 95% against buying anything "new" from the store as there are plenty of "used" items. I use parentheses because "new" or "used" can not be applied to live rock.
But all my tanks were either given to me or bought used. We need to lessen our impact on environment by re-using / recycling as much as we can.
BTW. I'll be selling my 14G biocube with live sand VERY SOON.

The for sale forum and the vendors forums here can be of great assistance to your search for live rock.

I just broke down one of my tanks and have about 20lbs of leftover rock that is covered in coraline. Softball size and smaller and tons of rubble. Also over 100lbs of live sand. It is all in a spare tank waiting for you. I'll send you a PM with my number. P.S. If you buy my rock I will throw you a few starter corals for free when you are ready.

From the bay - no way!

THE BAY!!!! We are surrounded by WATER:tub:
I got some "live" rocks from the bay and after I put them in the tank I had the craziest aglae bloom I've ever seen! I would advise when getting started to get stuff from MEMBERS as opposed to BAY! and check their tank threads to ensure you are getting good stuff.

Wouldn't bay rock introduce boat fuel residue and other pollutants like sewage? Is there a way of cleaning this stuff off without killing the "live" rock?
