Vista or xp

I just got a new laptop with vista, but vista makes my browser stop working all the time, ive updated with microsoft updates all that there is...my ques is can i go back to an XP OS or is that unwise...i just dont know what else i can do...oh and i even tried to reload adobe flash player which some say can/may cause this...any suggestions will be apreciated.

oh the browser im running is ie8 , i tryed to run firefox which i prefer but that didnt work either..

IE8 final code was released last week no longer in Beta.

Slama what causes your browser to stop? Is it a page loading flash

If it is uninstall flash player i will assume you have flash player 10 and download and install falsh player 9. I haven't tried that but it might help search for .... ah what the hell Flash PLAyer 9

If you had the beta of IE8 uninstall it and reinstall with the Final code. but since this is happening with both browsers it might be a flash issue if it happens whenn loading flash. Also the google browser chrome is getting a lot of buzz. I try all the browsers out but usually stay with IE at the end. Hope this helps Slama.

If Vista is giving you that much of a headache I'd say downgrade but just verify that XP has a copy of all the drivers the notebook came with, some newer models were designed specifically with Vista in mind so no XP drivers were written.

What I would suggest before you do anything is uninstall/disable the IE/Firefox plugins to see if that corrects the problem first, from there maybe temporarily disable some of Vistas extra security , Vista could be blocking something you want.

Oh and for the record IE8 was officially released last month so it is no longer in beta.

i dont understand i never have problems slamma.... and everybody and there mother has problems with vista... i would stay with vista i like it better. you will like it once you find out ur issue.

as said already i would check the security settings. Put it on basic security the lowest you can go and try to do what ur doing.

slamma also something you can try before you do what we discussed is to uninstall the video driver and reinstall it.. i was reading on the net that with those laptops something about the nvidia video driver caused a problem... give it a shot

You already said it "Plugins" Disable them all! Also try creating a new user with limited access. This will stop a lot of BS from running. I setup all my clients with a limited user for going on the net. It's safer and you can even catch the crap trying to be installed from the net when the error about permissions comes up mean while you did nothing.
Vista is great if you do nothing but play games and email... but trying to run new video apps and the like sucks it hangs all the time.
If the drivers are available go with XP.

Also make sure your virus protection is updated. Sometimes MS updates change thing that 3rd party software did not account for.

Mike, downgrade to 6.0 - much more stable on the vista platform. Our business machines came canned with 7.0, before connecting it to the network, I uninstalled it and installed 6.0 - my machine has never hung, failed, crashed or otherwise.

I use both, Vista at home and XP at work. XP is much more intuitive if you have 1/2 computer smarts. Vista is a totally different construct.

Stay current on all the updates and I hope you supercharged the machine.

only advantage vista has to me is its able to allocate more use of Memory where Xp tops out at 3.5 megs.. ms has sand bagged everyone Vista is a flop .Areo takes to many resources ,to run and The Pc has way too many hardware manufactures to keep all drivers up to date, and this is where the problem lies.. I been building computers for years I have Macs and Pc's I own a recording studio, So Power and reliablity are import. IMO Mac Os is the way to go, No Bsod's ever or red screen of deaths ,it just works... I've had a mac since 1987 and Pc's since the commador Vic 20, Mac's down fall are programs and hardware to expensive, and pc's downfall is MS , dell, hp ,and all these other manufactures, selling crap.. build your own computer for half,, Btw why buy vista if Ms is abandoning it..

I do audio recording and this is a rocket ship for me..
My only problem now is software reliablity.. I use Logic pro for my mac and it works flawless..
I use Sonar 8 producers edition and still have minor software issues , both programs are top of the line Daw's and the daw's for mac just seem to work perfect for me.
I know I got of the topic , But I turely believe MS is just Consumer Crapo.
i use both computers so I'm not just say to say..Its the truth.. Pc is great to view the internet..and get virus,and bsod, perhaps a stroke when everything crashes,

Has nothing to do with which OS you're running. That's the limitation a 32bit OS can only address 4GB with PAE mode enabled. If you need to address more than 4GB, an 64bit flavor of either XP or Vista is needed.

My computer is ready for x64 or vista 64.. but I decieded to stay with 32 bit cause half the software I use is not 64 bit compadiable. and manufactures aren't even caring about designing drivers for em.. as they all no Vista is done .. you also need to do some configuration in order to have 32 bit software access 4gigs. just to much aggervation.. for something simple.
