I have been using purple up for awhile and have noticed some growth..also lightly scrubing my live rock to clean it....is this a good practice or does the good growth just come on its own over time.
My lighting is in need of an over haul....FOWLR 180 gallons w/ 33 long sump and 20 long refugium.

There was a similar thread on just this subject.Good water parameters and good calcium and Alk parameters as well will encourage coralline health.Only works if you already have some already.Says it on the bottle.

I have been using it sparingly for about 8mths and only in the last month am i beginning to see the growth spread. i had some store bought rock with coraline already on it. I hear horror stories about purple up all the time so i dont follow the dosing instuctions on the bottle i use it maybe once a month. i dont know if it is the cause of my recent growth or if its just the other rock seeding the new ones but i have no doubt my hermits are spreading it all over the tank there shells are covered.

Guys dont use this ....Just give your system the proper lighting and parameters and the corralline will come.

I wasted more money on that junk in the past and never had any growth with it ..Now, I check my parameters and dose 2 part B-Ionic occasionally and have it all over !!

Purple Up

I used it when I first started my 46ga bowfront last year and had decent growth. Over the course of the year, just by maintaining good parameters and dosing 2 part its all over my rocks, eventhough I have a Blue Tuxedo Urchin eating it all the time.

I use the 2 part B-Ionic and I also add a cap full of purple up 1-3 times a week and I have purple all over the place in my 75 gallon... I am not sure how there could be horror stories on it, it's worked fine for me in my experience.. Just dose according to the directions, in fact I'm about to order another bottle.. lol..

I have had explosive Coralline growth in my new tank that has been setup since November 08 with NO Purple Up at all just good parameters...IMO its a big waste I have used it in my previous tank and had NO Coralline whatsoever but that is just my opinion ...

Purple is great for making your water cloudy :lol: If you want good coralline growth, just keep your water parameters in check.

Agree with the above. Purple Up is a waste of money. Keep your parameters in check and the coralline will grow
