I came back home from work today to see my parrotfish at the bottom of the tank sideways, at first I thought it had died but upon closer inspection it is still breathing. The fish is at the bottom of the tank sitting sideways (motionless but breathing)- I need urgent help please so i know what to do because i'm afraid it might die soon!

I set up my new aquarium tank about a week ago and i added 6 parrotfish in the 10 gallon tank a week ago as well. The tank has a filter, oxygen pump, water heater (i keep at 80 degrees). The tank has tap water but i added the anti-chlorine solution to the water so it should be fine. My friends say the fish arne;t used to the tank but is it really that serious enough to make fish die? I need some quick response please so my fish doesn't die

one parrot fish for a 10 gallon is too much they are an aggressive fish as well as they get massive. Adding any fish to any new tank that is only a week old is not advised. Do the fish a favor and bring them back to the store, let your tank cycle and stick to small tropical fish in a 10 gallon.

I think you have ammonia in the tank.

Ask the store(or whoever) to take back the fish in the mean time.

If so, then follow the following steps:
1)You need to cycle your tank so that your filter can build up the bio-filter. To cycle the tank, you need aged water. If you have an extra container that can hold 5G or more of water, sit the water for 1 to 2 days. Kick the bucket to loosen the gas. bubble accumulated on the side. Search About.com for how to cycle a fresh water tank for details.
2)Add fish slowly in stead of all at once.

6 parrot in a 10G is too pack unless they are babies. Your filter is not going to be able to catch up with the waste produced even if your tank is cycled properly unless your filter is super big.
