Hi I am building a new tank, so I can upgrade from a 3 gallon pico tank.

Right now I cut out all the pieces for my overflow design and siliconed the pieces together.

Before I silicone it to my 20 gallon long tank, I want to be sure that the water will actually transfer from one baffle to another. Will the water level rise high enough to each baffle?
I never did this before that is why I am asking you guys.:bablefish

Here is the picture of what I have designed and made.

from the design, i believe the water level on your overflow will be the height of the middle baffle, which will be higher than your overlow "teeth"...

Should I trim the teeth to 2" just as a precaution?
If that means making the 'teeth' longer, you would be lowering the water level in the tank. which is not what you would want to do. Looks like you need to lower the middle baffle to a height, less than the bottom of the teeth, so the water WILL overflow into you chamber.

Whati is a safe height for the middle baffle?

Is a cut of 8" sufficient for water to move into the 4th chamber?

I'm curious why you're putting baffles in front of the overflow teeth? Is this a sump or your display?

This is overflow is for my display tank - Trying to make a AIO tank.
Space is very limited in my place. Since I already got 3 other big tanks setup, plus that 3 gallon pico I am trying to replace with this tank.

Putting this on a bookshelf that is 31" wide, just enough for this 20 long:shhh:

Ok Going to rip the silicone off the middle baffle and trim it down to 8"
Hope it works :smash:

I'm still confused. I've designed and built MANY systems. The baffles in your system don't seem to serve any purpose. If you explain it to me, I can possibly save you that room. With a tank that size real estate comes at a price, and a premium. I don't think you need any baffles.

I want to put chaeto in one chamber, filter floss and sponge in another, and carbon and Chemi-pure in the other. I just wanted to keep everything in the tank. (since behind my tank there is only like 3.5" of clearance.) Also wanted get the Tunze nano skimmer, since its also a in tank skimmer.

I currently have a 3 gallon pico with some mods, so this new size real estate will be a big upgrade :birthday:

That should be fine, as long as pump is pushing out the water,in the last chamber, the flow will continue. The 'media' that you put between the baffles could possibly slow the flow.

Just tested it with the 8" middle baffle, everything works great. no leaks so far.

Thanks albano for the help
