When do you need to change them? I have had mine over a year. I see no diffrence in my live stock. (I know they say should only last 1 year) but why change it if it still works. Is there a way to tell when it has to change?

Also I see alot of diffrent kinds and price range is there a better brand and why?

I have a 150wt on my 45 gal cube

thanks

Although the Bulb(s) fire fine and color seems to be similar, the bulb has changed drastically over the year you have used it. For one, the intensity (measure in PAR) has dropped, although you may not realize it, but the color has changed as well.

Of the most important reasons is the PAR rating. I new bulb will have a much higher PAR rating than a used 1 yr old bulb.

be careful when changing bulbs. you should do some sort of acclimation. the screen method is best- put a series of window screens between the lamps and the water, and remove one a week.

also, the brand does make a difference. some have very poor quality control and shift spectrum very quickly.

Each brand has its own attributes. Especially when it comes to color.

Most reefers are drawn towards, Phoenix, XM, and Ushio.

In some cases you get what you pay for, but all the bulbs I listed are in the middle of the price field in accordance with other bulbs on the market. I suggest checking out Sanjay's lighting guide to help you pick out a new bulb.
